Like a personal diary, newspapers once recorded the daily events not only of the world and nation, state and local, but the daily life of communities. Drawing upon these brief items found in newspaper columns headed Society, Personal Mention, Clubs and Sororities, Parties and Meetings, Weddings and Engagements, and the Day’s Statistics, Irvington in 1910 provide us with a rare glimpse into the day to day lives of people who were next door or who lived “just around the corner” in Indianapolis’ first planned suburb at the close of the first decade of the twentieth century.
