The Clawson and Thompson families arrived in Elko County, Nevada in the late 1800s. Agnes Thompson Clawson bought an inexpensive camera and photographed her family and the scenes of life around the different locations in which she and her family lived. Agnes's younger brother-in-law, Ray Clawson, began taking photographs of his own about a decade later. The photographs in this book are mostly from Agnes Clawson's collection, but Ray's have been selectively added when the subject matter complements Agnes's images. This is the second volume that tells the story of my life as a firefighter for the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM), mostly in Alaska. Volume II covers the years 1979 through the 1984; volume I covers the years 1973 to 1978. The first person text traces my experiences and observations chronologically and relies on both original source materials and on personal memories. The author worked for the federal Bureau of Land Management as a wildland firefighter on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula during the summer fire seasons of 1976-1978. This volume chronicles his experiences in both text and numerous color photos. The second volume by this title covers his experiences with BLM while working out of Galena, Alaska during the fire seasons of 1979-1984.

This volume has three sections; the first is an autobiographical account of Anna Beardsley Ashmun's life from her birth in 1883 to her marriage to Otis L. Linn in 1907. Sections II and III follow the genealogy of Anna's Ashmun and Beardsley roots from the arrival of both families in New England in the 1600s. My wife and I traveled to Scotland in May 2022. This book tells the story of that visit in a sequential narrative heavily fortified by many color photographs and supplemental background information gleaned from many sources encountered on our journey. We spent four days in North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland, and hired a personal guide for three of those days. His contributions enrich the story. The author's maternal grandfather and father helped establish and develop the Presbyterian Conference Center at Zephyr Point, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, starting with the purchase of the property in the 1920s. The oldest remaining structure on the property is the cabin built by the Otis Linn and associated family and friends. This segment of my life story follows me through the years 1961 to 1972, from my family's move from California to Nevada to my departure for Europe. The narrative and many accompanying photographs and documents has the most relevance to family, but it also may attract a broader audience. Most of the story takes place in the western states of the U.S. and is representative of middle class life at the time.

My grandfather, Otis L. Linn, used a small pocket notebook in the spring and summer of 1919 to record daily information of his activities, observations, and thoughts in the days and weeks before he embarked onboard an Army Transportation Service troop ship from Marseilles to New York City by way of Gibraltar and the Azores. The notebook means less by itself than as a supplement to the book of Otis's letters to his family from October 1918 to July 1919. The letters have been published in book form as The Letters of Otis L. Linn With the Y.M.C.A. in France Serving the American Expeditionary Force 1918 & 1919.
