Book Synopsis
The Clawson and Thompson families arrived in Elko County, Nevada in the late 1800s. Agnes Thompson Clawson bought an inexpensive camera and photographed her family and the scenes of life around the different locations in which she and her family lived. Agnes's younger brother-in-law, Ray Clawson, began taking photographs of his own about a decade later. The photographs in this book are mostly from Agnes Clawson's collection, but Ray's have been selectively added when the subject matter complements Agnes's images. The limited narrative in the form of image annotations is based on Agnes Clawson's grandson Arthur Clawson's research and documentation, as well as his own and his younger brother Linn Clawson's memories of people and places. These are amateur photographs for the most part, as is quickly evident in viewing them. They capture places and people from an earlier day and are presented here as a contribution to preserving a peek into Nevada history as well as into our family history
