My grandfather, Rev. Otis L. Linn, served with the Y.M.C.A. from October 1918 until July 1919 supporting the troops of the American Expeditionary Force (A.E.F.) in France. The "Y" functioned much like the USO in later years. This volume contains scanned letters and transcriptions of letters he wrote to his family. The collection is important to his descendants and to any others interested in original source materials from that time and place. Otis witnessed the 1918 influenza pandemic while in training, the end of the war in New York City while awaiting embarkation to England, and the presence of Woodrow Wilson in France to support the creation of the League of Nations. Agnes Thompson Clawson was my paternal grandmother. She saved the postcards in this collection, and my brother Arthur Clawson scanned and archived them. He also arranged them chronologically in digital documents and transcribed the handwritten messages on each card. The postcards have interest to the Clawson and Thompson families, but they may be of interest to individuals interested in them as expressions of the dominant American culture of that era.

The author's grandparents, Will and Agnes Clawson, bought a chicken ranch in Old Washoe City in 1929, and lived there until Will died in 1943. The house had been built in 1864 or 1865 to house the minister of the Methodist Church, located near the church. This account traces the extensive preservation and remodeling work done by Will and sons Marion and Bill Clawson during the years their parents lived there. The text accompanying the many photographs is based extensively on journals and books, and transcriptions of interviews, which are directly quoted rather that summarized. Many of the photographs are family images because the story of the ranch is a family story. The house remains in ...

A memoir of the author's service as a Peace Corps Volunteer on Pohnpei Island, Eastern Caroline Islands in 1967 & 1968. The narrative is based on letters and journals written at that time, plus reflections and additions after the 50+ years that have passed since then. There are about 285 photographs, most of then color images, and all taken by the author. The book may appeal to RPCVs who served in Micronesia, but the photographs may attract persons interested in the islands at that time of transition in the post-WWII era of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands.
