Book Synopsis
The Book of Jonah tells the story of this prophet and his flight from God; how God stopped him, turned him around, and caused him to come back to Him. But this story is more than just a story about a man and a great fish. Jonah’s story is a profound illustration of the mercy and grace of God. It also gives us a fuller picture of God’s compassion and love and helps us understand that no one is beyond redemption.
It is my prayer that we will learn some great lessons from Jonah’s story; how to obey God by doing what God tells us to do and going wherever God sends us. It is obvious that Jonah’s life was in a state of rebellion, but Jonah’s story is not just Jonah’s story. It is also a vivid example of our story because, if the truth were told, every one of us has a little Jonah in us. There’s a rebellious side to all of us and we rebel against God for the same reasons as Jonah. Why Do We Rebel?
We rebel against God because God asks us to do something that we really don’t want to do. The Bible tells us in chapter 1, verse 2 that God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and cry out against it. Verse 3 says, “But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.”
