I dabbled with writing poetry in various forms for many years. I was not at first drawn to any particular poetic form, but I most typically wrote free verse. In about 1991, I began to experiment with writing shaped verse utilizing the lozenge form. I quickly developed a self-imposed set of rules that required, among other things, that each poem have forty-nine words arranged in a diamond shape. In each lozenge, I was equally concerned with the sound of the verse when read aloud, the creation of a vivid mental image through the words used, and the actual appearance of the lozenge on the printed page. This book is dedicated to the brilliance and insights of James Baldwin. The simplicity of his words weaved such a complex and complete analysis of America and being black in it. The most amazing part of his legacy is his ability to be honest and critical while speaking in love, hope, and pride in who he was and what he stood for.

A 128 page collection of poetry, prose, and artwork created by Blake More.  Godmeat was initially published in 2008 by Beatitude Press in Berkeley.  The first edition came with a DVD containing three "poem movies" and one 25 minute audio poem.  This is the books second edition printing.  Run by poet HD Moe, Beatitude Press focused on publishing the lesser known, "Baby Beats", and Blake More came into the North Beach poetry world in the late 80s and was fortunate to be taken under the wings of some very accomplished next generation of beat poets.  Blake consented to being included in their imprint as long as they let her do all her own layout and design.    A limited number of DVDs ...
