This volume tells the story of the author's early life, from his birth on July 20, 1945 until his family relocated before his 16th birthday from California to Reno, Nevada in 1961. The narrative roughly follows a chronological sequence, but not rigidly, because it subdivides the sequence into categories that sometimes meld into the whole timespan of the story.
