I have often told my children and friends that after 50 years of being a minister’s wife, helping to raise eleven children and married to the same man for 66 years that I could undoubtedly write a book about some of my experiences. I want this book to be for my children and my friend to remember me by; I pray, by the grace of God it will be a blessing to them.

Parents usually hope their kids learn from the mistakes they made when they were their age. They tell them stories about when they were kids and how life was different. Occasionally, the life of a child mirrors the life of a parent. How the child reacts to those similar situations is largely affected by how the parent raised them—or didn’t. Orphaned by the age of 10, Jim Turner was left without a permanent home, bouncing between living with family members in Upstate SC and Transylvania County, NC until he was drafted into the US Army in 1943.
