Book Synopsis
A security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is found bludgeoned to death in the Medieval Room. Lieutenant Phil Cantino is sent to investigate. When he discovers the murdered man is a long time friend of his old partner, Gordon Nunn, he gets the retired detective to help.
From the very beginning there is little for Nunn to go on. At the loading dock the glass in the door was cut out professionally, by a thief, but nothing seems to be missing. An inventory is ordered. Everything seems to be accounted for, until a painting by Gainsborough is discovered gone.
