Pawns in the Sugarcane Book III, "Empire of Blood," is the last in a three-book series spanning the days just before the end of the Spanish American War into the Philippine Rebellion of 1901. The hero of this series, Major Luke Sheehan, who journeyed from being a frontier cavalry officer in 1897 (Pawns In the Sugarcane) to an active participant during the Spanish American War (Pawns in the Sugarcane Book II) comes to the end of his service as a Secret Service agent operating in the Philippines during the 1899 Philippine rebellion, within these pages. The situations in this fictitious work are based on actual historical persons and actual events that transpired between 1899 and 1901 during the Filipino rebellion. Any veterans of World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, and The War on Terror will quickly see many parallels between their encounters overseas and those faced by American soldiers three generations before.
