Book Synopsis
On September 1st, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland starting World War Two the French luxury passenger liner SS Normandie was left stranded in New York Harbor. It sat there unused until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7th, 1941. Work to make the Normandie into a troop carrier was started. A fire broke out. Tons of water were pumped into the burning ship. Top heavy, the ship rolled over on to the port side and lay in the muddy river.
When a Navy Diving School was established on the Normandie Frank McNeil volunteered and found himself traveling to New York City to start a new chapter in his young life. Little did he know at the time it would change him forever.
