Book Synopsis
Here it comes: the cold, hard truth about motherhood. Well, make that the truth according to first time author Renee Burose Squires. She doesn’t hold back about the fear and anxiety she experiences as the parent of a teenage daughter and a primary school-age son. Could it be that Squires failed to pay close attention to the duties and responsibilities on the parental application: tons of dedication, hardly any days off, and a life-long commitment ? Perhaps she is simply not cut out for the job. Oh well, it’s too late to turn back now. Follow along, if you dare, as she recounts some of the memorable moments of raising her two children. Through it all, she maintains her sanity with a wicked sense of humor.

Remember "The Bernie Mac Show"? Take the family humor from the show and put it into a pseudo-blog for 21st-century readers, turn the Bernie Mac character into a mom, and you have "Lord, Help Me With These Kids!" Renee Burose Squires matches Bernie Mac's wit. The book offers great insight into 21st-century family life and the trials and triumphs of moms and surrogate moms everywhere. Renee Burose Squires comes from the viewpoint of an older mother trying to take care of a son, daughter and husband while working. I laughed a lot reading this book. I loved that she included stories from other moms and a story from an aunt, a woman with no children of her own but who "played" a mom in real life. It's a great read. I highly recommend it.
