Book Synopsis
Originally written by Fr. Cletus La Mere in 1963 as part of his thesis towards a Master's Degree in American History (Catholic University of America), it was later republished in part by Fr. Martinus Cawley OCSO of the Trappist Abbey in Lafayette, Oregon in 1996 for the Sesquicentennial of the Archdiocese of Portland. This is Fr. Cawley's edition, along with his appendices. This volume also includes never-before-published photographs from Fr. Felix's archived collection, many of which he took himself. Fr. Felix was one of the first three Salvatorians sent to the United States by Father Francis Jordan in 1892 when his foundation was in existence for only eleven years. That first Salvatorian foundation in the USA remained until 1991, just one year shy of its own centennial.
