If you can laugh at your own foibles as well as those of others, you will enjoy this collection, from the intrepid Amazonian activist to the tame copywriter who discovers she might have inherited wild Gypsy blood, as well as the three sisters who all claim possession rights to an inherited doll. To roughly paraphrase, everyone is a little crazy, but each in his or her own way. They are uneven in length because they were originally written for various publications that had different word count requirements. The pieces are set in California and Florida because everything is a bit more in Florida and California but they could happen anywhere.

No Laughing matter is a modern day takeoff based on the Biblical tale of Abraham and Sarah. Al, Pearl, Trudy and Iris are retired and living in a Florida condo, members of the Morning Pool Group which specializes in comparing delicatessen menus, going to Early Birds and attending tired theatrical rehashes. This seems an idyllic way to creep into old age but disaster looms. Mix in a rabbi and a minister, various doctors, a musical group called The Alligators and aliens from outer space and therein lies a tale.
The Nancy Plays and The Catbox Jackie Pentecost

The Nancy Plays is an exploration of loss of a loved one, in this case a daughter named Nancy. The first two acts, Nancy, The Transfer Nurse and Widows may be tragedies in a minor key, but hope springs forth as surely as spring follows winter and the third act, Pandora, ends in a farce that is both rousing and thought provoking. The Cat Box is a comedy involving the first wife of a certain unflappable Stephen Cochran and his second wife, who happens to be the sister of his first wife. If anyone in the family, which includes his first wife’s two teenage girls, is stressed out, it is surely not Stephen, the self-styled King of the Used Tire Trade.
