Everything has two sides. There is what we perceive and one who perceives: the seen and the seer. The apparent and the hidden define each other. Without these two sides nothing could be understood or exist, yet we remain unaware of our most basic nature of unity: who we truly are. Because we don’t know, we define ourselves by linking our identities to the ever-changing flux of the apparent world, and in so doing create suffering. In The Other Side of Midnight, the author examines this dilemma and clearly shows that polarity is not to be feared but instead embraced as the principle defining all life from the sphere of the metaphysical and the physical.

We move through our lives like a leaf floating on a river, discovering the eddies, the rapids and tranquil pools. A stone falls into the flow and is made smooth by the grinding. As sap rises and falls in the depths of a tree, so our spirit moves in our bodies taking us to places both near and far. We are not humans having spiritual experiences but rather spirits having a human experience. It is in this manner of rising, falling and polished by adversity that our rough edges are ground away and our spiritual core revealed. This is an allegorical short story tracking the emergence of genuine self-awareness of an any-man discovering that beneath the fabricated lies the real.
