RUSSELL COOPER HUNGERDALE grew up in Fayetteville and Huntsville Arkansas before attending college in Southern California. He taught and coached in California for a few years, got married and moved back to Arkansas. He is quick to point out that his Master’s degree in history does not qualify him for the content of this book. He would also admit that his knowledge of science is severely lacking. His expertise comes from the experiences he claimed to have when he vanished in 2009 for several years.

This brief history follows Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery down the Columbia River from Wallula Gap to the mouth at Astoria. That this work is brief rests on two factors: The first is the obvious fact that it is short. This is not the definitive history of the river. The second point is that not all of the river is described.
