BLACK HISTORY What inspired me to write this poems starting with SLAVERY is simple, my son is of African origin and I started asking my Mother in law where they came from and she said: ”Ivory Coast”, from there they brought us to the Dutch Colony which is Suriname, our name Weigle is a Swiss name there was a Swiss Monastery. This brief history follows Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery down the Columbia River from Wallula Gap to the mouth at Astoria. That this work is brief rests on two factors: The first is the obvious fact that it is short. This is not the definitive history of the river. The second point is that not all of the river is described. Lewis and Clark joined the Columbia at its confluence with the Snake at Walla Walla; and this account follows their journey from Sacagawea Point to its contentious meeting with the Pacific Ocean. This story practically began to write itself. It was now the year, 2013 and the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Which was also one of the most significant battles of the Civil War. The irony was that this was a story from the 150th Pennsylvania Bucktail Brigade of McKean County, PA. and the 150th anniversary of the battle. A History of Western Hills Church of Christ shares a story of how the Church of Christ developed in Texas, Bell County, and eventually in Temple, Texas. Matthew Stephen has a great interest in the health of the local church. This project was inspired by a desire to better understand our local church's history to help us better steward its future. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, his curiosity led him to inquire how churches responded to the 1918-1919 pandemic flu. Unfortunately, little was written about the church's response to the pandemic flu. He hopes this book will provide much guidance and encouragement in dealing with future challenges.
