Book Synopsis
Part satirical commentary and part interactive coloring book, Akcara Studio's White Jesus and Other Musings offers a comical look at depictions of Jesus in both commercial and fine art. The often silly and nonsensical narratives include observations and interpretations of religious art depicting the subject the author refers to in jest as "White Jesus" as viewed through a modern-day, mostly non-religious lens. The book includes 16 drawings based on images of Jesus, as well as a few other "bonus" illustrations that can be colored.
About The Author
Cara Calvert-Thomas of Akcara Studio is a painter, art educator, creativity coach and serial dabbler in all sorts of creative pursuits.
She grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, where long winter nights and nature’s beauty provided the perfect setting for a budding young creative. She attended art school at the University of Kansas, has lived in Oklahoma and Texas, and now calls Southern California her home.
When she’s not making art or inspiring others to, she spends her free time traveling, gardening, cooking tasty food with her husband Gary, and subjecting her dog Kermit to selfies, whilst attempting to explain the importance of his social media presence. He is not convinced, but he willingly accepts the attention it brings him, nonetheless.
