Book Synopsis
In Unconscious Correspondences, Kjeldsen launches an inquiry into what he calls the 'will to duality'. Why is it that the mind is seen as in conflict with the passions? Why is it that the 'divided self' is the typical portrait of man offered by so many religions and philosophers? Is the will truly free? What do we mean when we invoke, "the self"? Kjeldsen explores this duality as it appears in many guises: mind v/s body, flesh v/s spirit, yin v/s yang, individuation v/s dissolution. Throughout the examination, he questions whether our ideas about the ego and freedom of the will have given rise to these dualities, and wonders what humankind might do after giving up these ideas. Or can they be given up?
