Book Synopsis
The Ishmael Factor is a study of the Middle East conflict based on the Biblical account of Ishmael and Isaac. The Islamic Arabs and Jews of today are living out the historical implications of that story, and the energy of this conflict is best understood as a manifestation of psychological and religious principles described in scripture. This treatment is unique because it is Biblical and Christian and Zionist, but also postmodern, deeply aware of the struggle to find a transcendent truth, and the struggle to avoid such a truth. The treatment is properly suspicious of how all of us take our positions on difficult issues, and yet it is not nihilistic, but reaches out for a transcendent understanding.
