Book Synopsis
Over the past 35 years Ron Barthet of Covington, LA., has been drawing cartoon pictorial maps of area towns, mainly the downtown business areas. His work has been featured on restaurant placemats, school textbook covers, postcards, Mardi Gras cups, and even T-Shirts. Each map spotlights the history of the town, and often names the key businesses located in the community. All in all, it's the continuation of a centuries-old art style that has recorded "bird's eye views" of cities around the world. Ron is a retired newspaper editor and photographer, and he has also written three novels, a few songs and enjoys keeping up a daily blog called "TammanyFamily.com." Many of the maps were published in color and are pictured as such in this collection. The original maps measured 11 x 17 inches on up (3 x 5 feet in some cases), but they were reduced in size to fit in the book, so some of the writing on the maps may be pretty small.
