Book Synopsis
This colorful story book for readers of all ages is based on the life experiences of a Gullah-Geechee little girl and her family. She grew up in the town of Mount Pleasant, where it seemed to her as a child, like the whole long stretch of Highway 17 was lined up with the sweetgrass basket makers’ stands of her grandparents’ friends and family.

Those days are gone, and the majority of the basket stands are gone too. In order to keep that era alive for those to come, the author shares this story that involves a child named “Meskenettie,” whose family have lived in the town for hundreds of years. This is her story of the history of Mount Pleasant from a Gullah-Geechee child’s view.

It includes historical facts and the notions of the author.
