Book Synopsis
The remarkable accounts of Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca in the Americas. The first recounts when he was marooned, enslaved, and forced to survive among the natives of modern day Texas and Northern Mexico destitute, starving, and naked for the majority of ten years. Later, he was commissioned by the king of Spain to be the governor of the South American colony of Asunción, where he becomes the first European to see the falls of Iguazú and explore much of the interior of South America before being betrayed and imprisoned. Once again, he survives incredible odds to make it back to Spain and clear his name.
