Book Synopsis
The truest thing about us is who we are in Christ! This statement runs contrary to modern philosophy, contemporary culture and our subjective feelings. But it is true nevertheless. God's word says: "Let God be true and every man a liar" (Romans 3:4). To know God is to know ourselves as creatures made Imago Dei (in God's image). As a primer on 'Incarnational Anthropology,' this seminar reveals how to understand ourselves in and through the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in the flesh. In other words, to understand ourselves TRULY is to know Christ TRULY! In the words of the Council of Chalcedon... "... we all with one voice teach the confession of one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ: the same perfect in divinity and perfect in humanity, the same truly God and truly man... in regards his humanity; like us in all respects except for sin..." In the words of the Apostle John, "By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world" (1 John 4:17 ESV). MacLaren's Expositions comments on 1 John 4:17 this way... "Large truths may be spoken in little words. Profundity is often supposed to be obscurity, but the deepest depth is clear. St. John deals with the deepest realities, and with all things in their eternal aspects... Here are nine little monosyllables. What can be simpler than, ‘As He is, so are we in this world?’ And what can go beyond the thought that lies in it, that a Christian is a living likeness of Christ?
