Book Synopsis
J. Richard Smith led an extraordinary life, and does a great job of sharing stories that detail the everyday adventures of growing up during the depression in rural Freestone County, Texas, coming of age traveling from Arizona, and moving to the big city of Dallas to raise a family. Born September 18, 1921, Richard tells his stories with humor and sometimes intricate detail, weaving an image of life in a different day and age. Yet he has embraced the twenty-first century, starting his writing career in the 1990s on his first computer, and using the internet to stay in touch with friends far and wide.
Richard started writing a computer memory book in 1990, which he titled “My Life”. It contained stories from his early life in Kirvin, Texas, and family memories of special times. His children collected these stories, as well as many published in his newsletter the Kirvin Kolumns, to create this book for his 90th birthday. Richard died on June 20, 2012.
