Book Synopsis
In "Kid Show: My World of Imagination," Bill Jackson (B. J.), legendary creator of some of the most innovative local children's television in America, takes you on a fascinating journey from the surprising beginning to the inevitable end of his exceptional career. Along the way, Bill creates some of the most compelling puppets in the history of children's TV, including smoke-billowing Dirty Dragon, prissy Wally and wacky Weird, and the quite exuberant Mother Plumtree. And, oh, yes, there was The Blob -- that large, bizarre lump of clay B. J. sculpted that spoke unintelligible "mood talk" that only B. J. could understand. Bill's most popular shows - "Cartoon Town, B. J. & Dirty Dragon," and the nationally syndicated "Gigglesnort Hotel," were all done in Chicago. Bill's imagination not only delighted his audiences, it inspired them to seek creative careers of their own.

This is not only a great trip down memory lane but tells the story of Bill Jackson, a guy I rushed home from school to watch and is a big part of my childhood TV memories. Word of advice though, if you have an appointment or need to be anywhere at a specific time do not pick this book up until you get home. It's very hard to put down once you start reading and you will be late!
About The Author
Author bio image
Born in the small town of Unionville, Missouri, in 1935, Bill spent his early childhood traveling with his parents on carnivals. After an extraordinary boyhood, he surmounted financial obstacles and graduated from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism, then set about creating some of the most imaginative local children's television in America. Within these covers you are by his side on a rollercoaster ride filled with outstanding success and heartbreaking defeat as Bill returns the reader to an era of children's television that will never be seen again.
