Book Synopsis
ISLAND DREAM is the story of Wayne and Gay Lindquist building a house and a life on Madeline Island. It begins with a dream and moves on to see that dream become a reality. Experience with them the backbreaking work of building their house with feet mired in viscous, red clay mud, often surrounded by biting black flies; but also share the excitement and sense of satisfaction experienced while they watch the house materialize and finally become their home. Share in their adventures on the water and the land, celebrations, times of sadness, struggles with becoming "islanders," and many happy times with family and friends. Finally, confront with them issues related to finances and physical problems associated with aging that make it difficult to maintain their dream.
The story is not an unusual one on Madeline Island. Others have struggled to build homes and lives on the island, and eventually are forced to make difficult decisions because of financial stress or physical limitations. The details of the story are, however, unique to this family and their experiences, both painful and amusing. Travel through the years with the Lindquists and enjoy the journey.
