Book Synopsis
Guardians of the Gap is a book about the history of a growing town and the need for a Fire Department. Big Stone Gap, Virginia is one of those towns that is rich with history and was once called the Pittsburg of the South. The story moves from the Civil war to the industrial era and a need for coal and iron ore. The book traces the Fire Department from 1882 through 2019. In the 300 pages there are stories of a growing area and the fires that shaped history.
It is my hope that the reader will enjoy all the stories and remember all firefighters serving in this great nation.
