Book Synopsis
Ready to read a dynamic book? This 568 page novel is 2 books in one. Be ready to wander as the characters and story unfolds. Enjoy. Description below:
Wanda Willingway, a mother, student and office assistant, discovers in her daily duties that she has a mental health illness called P.M.S., Premenstrual Syndrome, once termed PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder). Wanda struggles with the symptoms of this chemical/hormonal imbalance and the stress of parenting. She fights to fight off the extreme mood swings that makes her feel and look like a mad-mom which creeps up on her and her son erratically, causing her traumatic coming-of-age childhood past to pop up and petrify her as a parent.
Wanda knows that time is not on her side and she wanders and sets out on a holistic—natural and spiritual—path for solutions to balance her spirit, body, and mind. She seeks help from a doctor and her mother only to be disappointed, especially by Trish Beats, her witty and beautiful, yet sadistic, cool-acting mom. Wanda’s anger turns to rage and she fears for herself and her son and pushes herself to transform her life running the race of faith. Shaky, stumbling, and scared, Wanda courageously searches for the best way to cope with her erratic emotions and physical pains. She falls deep within her cluttered mind, into a mysterious metaphysical daze, which will either move her to completely lose her mind or give her the strength to deal with her biggest fear and face the toughest fight of her life.
Will she be lost in the dogwood daze or will she find her way to the light to do what's right? Will her fight come with a dogwood price?

"A rare find! The resurrection of classic-like, fictional minds of historical times. An intertwining of books such as The Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrison with its poetic revelations of how language and word perceptions create and destroys the fabric of who a person sees and knows who they are to be. It entails the dramatic drama as in "Mommie Dearest", where a mother goes through life learning to let go of control; and yet it is thought-provoking, gentle, and gracious, as the main character, a child and an adult going through her painful journey in which she finds herself on a metaphysical adventure and awakening, like in Ruby by Mary Summer Rain. This novel is a transcendent story that will be a timeless read for many women and families in need of understanding such a complex mental health issue.

A book to be read by parents dealing with hormones and life. This book is well written. The characters come alive off the page in your mind. It's encouraging and entertaining to see how Wanda deals with hard times. It helps me see another way to deal with mine.
