Book Synopsis
One thing I have wanted to do for many years is to put together a book featuring my mother Florence's stories. I want her spirit to live on through her folktales. Her stories are magical. My mother's legends have stayed with me all my life. I'm sure my brothers and sister heard the same yarns, but this book is written the way I remember them. I believe mom gave me her imaginative stories so I could write about them when I grew up. I wouldn't have written this book if I had not gone to college. I was in my forties and going to the University of Colorado at Denver when I discovered I had a talent for writing. One course I took in Women’s Studies was autobiographical writing. I began writing the short stories about my mother Florence growing up on a farm. While I was writing, her stories grew and became real to me. My college professor encouraged me to keep on writing and expanding on them - that I had a real treasure in her stories.

I have enjoyed reading this wonderful book with its captivating collection of memories, of a truely Talented woman. Magdalena Gallegos has shared with her readers the precious gift her mother left her. The stories of events in her mother's life are very touching and warms the heart. The reader is touched by the connection the family experinces with butterflies as they are woven into the stories. There are times when the reader feels the authors pain and shares in her excitement as the stories unfold. I highly recommend this book as a good family read.

The minute I picked up Florence and the Butterflies I was transported to a magical place. I felt like I was tucked into that warm cozy bed with Magdalena listening to Florences' beautiful stories. The author does her Mother proud by preserving and passing on these wondferful yarns of old. I myself have always had a special place in my heart for butterflies and the next time that I see one I will call to life one of Florence's stories. Magdalena has a smooth way of spinning a tale and you can actually feel the warmth she holds dear in her heart for her Mother. Make yourself a pot of coffee next Sunday morning and settle in with this delightful book.
