Book Synopsis
São Paulo-born and New York City-raised author, lecturer, creative consultant, teacher, and translator JOSMAR FERREIRA LOPES has spent a lifetime in pursuit of learning about and studying the culture, background, history, and language, along with the musical and artistic legacy, of his native Brazil. With the completion of BRAZIL'S FAT LADY CAN'T SING, BUT SHE CAN STILL DO THE BOSSA NOVA -- his first officially published work -- readers equally fascinated with the country’s ethos and diversity can dive “head-first” into such under-explored areas of Brazilian cultural life as opera, film, and musical theater, not to mention the popular song front and, of course, her fabled soccer credentials. With that, Josmar takes readers on a personal and fact-filled journey through all these subjects, to include the yearly Carnival celebration and the samba and bossa nova craze.

"It’s here! The wait is over! My book has finally arrived! A work devoted to Brazilian culture, to include such subjects as opera, pop, soccer, cinema, and musical theater. Oh, and don’t forget Carnival and samba — it wouldn’t be Brazil without them!" -- JOSMAR LOPES

NOT ONLY CAN BRAZIL’S FAT LADY SING, “BUT SHE CAN SING QUITE WELL, THANK YOU, MISSING ONLY AN OCCASIONAL BEAT OR TWO.” SHE’S EVEN CAPABLE OF “CHANGING HER ‘TUNE’ FROM TIME TO TIME – THAT IS, FROM OPERA TO POP, AND FROM POP TO CINEMA AND MUSICAL THEATER, THEN BACK AGAIN, WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SOCCER AND STREET CARNIVAL THROWN IN FOR GOOD MEASURE.”
BRAZIL’S FAT LADY CAN’T SING, BUT SHE CAN STILL DO THE BOSSA NOVA – AUTHOR JOSMAR F. LOPES’ MAIDEN LITERARY EFFORT – HAS EARNED A DESERVED ROUND OF APPLAUSE FROM HER PEERS IN THE OPERA, CONCERT, ARTISTIC, SPORTS, AND MUSICAL THEATER REALMS.
