Book Synopsis
BEFORE WE WERE MAGIC presents poems that both appreciate and challenge the #BlackGirlMagic movement.
These vulnerable, yet heartfelt poems address the overlap of gender, race, sexuality, mental health, family, politics, religion, and more.
In a time where stories, images, and attributes of Black women are being celebrated as well as exploited; Before We Were Magic offers insight while also acknowledging the path that many Black girls had to travel prior to being considered magic by the masses.
