Book Synopsis
Practical Mysticism, a step-by-step guide to mystical experiences and contemplative life that all possess, awakens deep wisdom that is relevant and needed today more than ever.

This little book, writes author Evelyn Underhill in 1914, was written during the last months of peace and went to press in the first weeks of World War I. Many might feel that in such a time of conflict and horror, when only the most ignorant, disloyal, or apathetic can hope for quietness of mind, a book which deals with that which is called the "contemplative" attitude to existence was wholly out of place.

Mysticism is defined as the art of union with Reality. The mystic is a person who has attained that union in greater or less degree; or who aims at and believes in such attainment.

Edited for the 21st century by Phil Johncock.
