A native of Hampton, Virginia, Janelle Johnson attended the University of Illinois and George Mason University with a full scholarship in track and field. A six-time NCAA All-American, she competed in the 1995 Olympic Festival. She earned a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from George Mason and a M.S. in Business from Johns Hopkins University. She completed Princeton Theological Seminary’s Certificate in Theology and Ministry Program. She serves in a federal cabinet level agency, where she leads the agency’s workforce and organizational effectiveness strategies. She serves as an ordained minister at Reid Temple AME Church, in Glendale, Maryland. Appointed by the County Executive, she serves as a commissioner to the Prince George's County, Maryland, Human Relations Commission.
