Book Synopsis
Kayla Jones was a beautiful, young, 17-year-old, girl who was well known for her strong willed personality and her gorgeous red hair. Approaching her senior year of high school, she had the world in the palm of her hands. She highly anticipated turning 18 on Christmas Eve of 2010. Achieving complete independence for herself was her ultimate goal in life. However, on July 3, 2010, Kayla’s world turned completely upside down when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). After a horrific 81 day battle with cancer, she passed away on September 22, 2010. She left behind a heartbroken mother and two younger sisters who admired and looked up to her as their hero.
Kayla’s mother, Amber, was forced to transform herself into becoming a bereaved mother. She was extremely shocked and lonely. Continuing on with life and trying to be strong for her two living girls were very difficult tasks for her. She discovered how writing became her best source of grief therapy and created her blog, “Mom Minus 1; A Mother’s Journey Through Life After Losing Her Daughter to Cancer.”
About The Author
Amber is a mother of three beautiful girls; Kayla, Allison and Ashley. At an early age, Amber developed a passion for writing. Composing her thoughts and life experiences through her personal diaries and journals provided her a comfortable and gratifying way to express herself. However, as an extremely busy wife and mother of three children, having extra time to write was very limited. Once her daughter, Kayla, was diagnosed with cancer, she immediately reached for the closest pen and paper and began to expel her fears and concerns. Writing became a close and intimate friend to her, not only while her daughter was ill, but, also, after her death.
