What makes us unique on the writing side.

TheBookPatch, created by #1 New York Times Best-Selling Author Victor Ostrovsky as the tool he always wanted when writing, authors can use a word like text editor to write edit and collaborate online. In addition to a familiar word-processing platform, TheBookPatch word processor offers unique tools like:

  • Cast of Characters: Store and access-with-ease the physical and emotional traits of book characters. This tool helps authors with organization and consistency throughout a book.
  • Authors Private Notes: Authors can store notes that only they can see. This tool helps with organization and to make sure thoughts and ideas are not lost.
  • Chapter Outline: Authors can quickly record plotline and events that occur in a chapter so they don't have to re-read the entire chapter.
  • Multiple Story Lines: Authors can create multiple story lines so that they can explore different plots and story paths.
  • Resources List: Authors can store useful links for the particular book they are working on in their resources list so they don't have to search through bookmarks or have to research the Internet.

Collaboration

At TheBookPatch, authors have the option of writing alone or collaborating with others. If an author chooses to collaborate, they control the permission system for their book. They can keep their collaboration to a small circle of colleagues or open up the book to the general public to contribute to.

TheBookPatch's author collaboration features are being used by scores of authors in ways we didn’t even think about. For example, an author can create a single story line where individual collaborators must follow a single storyline or an author can create multiple story lines allowing different authors to take the book simultaneously in different directions.

Editing

Editing is one of the most important processes in writing, and at TheBookPatch editing is made easy. TheBookPatch provides a place where authors can find editors looking for work and vice versa. Further, authors and editors can access and work on any TheBookPatch story at the same time from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.

Publishing

Once a book is complete, authors can easily print copies—a single copy if they want--directly from TheBookPatch. Even if an author doesn't write their book on TheBookPatch writing platform, they can still upload their works from programs like Microsoft Word and then print them.

In order to get complete the visual appeal of their book, TheBookPatch allows authors to choose a generic cover design or they can upload their own cover designs.

Since the TheBookPatch has a "no-rejection" policy, all authors can rest assured that the work they produce will result in published book. In addition to hard copies, authors will be able to publish their works in eBook, digital book and audio book formats at TheBookPatch.

Community and Feedback

TheBookPatch aims to not only be a tool and resource for writing and publishing, but a community for those involved in the book industry. TheBookPatch will feature forums where writers can discuss a variety of industry topics, meet new people, and gather feedback on their works.

In the forums and on the Web site, writers can find editors and cover artists, cover artists and editors can find work, established publishers can find hidden gems and readers can find unique, original and new works.

Privacy and Copyright

Privacy and copyright issues are of extreme importance to authors and TheBookPatch has taken comprehensive measures to ensure that both are fully addressed.

At TheBookPatch, authors have the ability to keep stories completely private so that only they can see them or, contrarily, they can open their stories to the world as they are writing them. It is all up to the individual author.

When starting a book, a single author has the option to choose that they are the sole copyright owner or they can allow the copyright to be shared with co-authors of a book (if the book was designed to have co-authors). Under no circumstances does TheBookPatch retain any portion of copyright.

Applications and Uses

Since TheBookPatch's tools and platform are so unique, it lends itself to applications and uses other than traditional authoring and publishing.

For example, educators can use TheBookPatch for class projects and student collaboration. Work can be housed in a single place and multiple students can contribute to and edit it. Students of all ages can use TheBookPatch to coordinate group writing projects or creative writing assignments.

Additionally, non-profits can create books with contributions from supporters/members, which can then be sold to fundraise for their causes, and business professionals can work on the same document no matter where they are in the world.

The possibilities are endless with a writing and publishing platform that can be accessed anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.
